Nea Moni (New Monastery) of Chios (ΙV). Νέα Μονή Χίου(ΙV)

Memories
In our days, one has to be "politically correct" and careful with words and their use. But there are facts and acts which can only be described with certain words. The facts are that some people have done the acts described here in 1822, as they have done in at Arcadi, Crete in 1866, as they have done it in Smyrna in 1922 and Cyprus in 1974. As they will probably do it again if they are given a chance. It is always the same people, against the other side, always the same.
When I am posting my photographs, I try not to be emotional. But there is something that makes me angry here. It is the fact that there are certain circles which want to make us forget what has happened. They are rewriting history, according to their requirements, teaching different things to our children. They make the nightmare described by George Orwell in his book 1984, a reality. That I can not accept.

Intense feelings, Costas, and I agree, the histories must not be hide or paraphrased!

That's not ancient history - though you're right, it is not widely spoken of. We should never forget the terrible things we can do to each other. All the more reason to extend our hands in friendship across the world. Perhaps there's more value in blogging than we appreciate?

Jenny,
Thank you for your comment. I agree we should extend our hand across to other peoples in friendship. I am in favor of friendship between peoples living next to each other. And I d really like to live together with our neighbors in harmony.
History has proven though than whenever the hand was extended in good will, it was bitten instead of shaken.

It is sad that all can't get along and prosper.I had a friend on the phone yesterday so disgruntled with politics that I finally asked where she was going to move and find it better. I am not very political and let others do all for me.

Unless we remember the atrocities committed by fellow human beings (term used loosely) - we are doomed to repeat them. Unless we are shown the realities, we believe the myths, and the realities lose the power to create change.

You say you try not to be emotional when posting your photographs. I don't think it's working, my friend. I feel emotion in each and every picture you post. A love for the land, a deep and abiding respect for the nature you see ... emotions you can't hide.

I deeply appreciate your blog, which shows the reality and pain of life, as well as the beauty and peacefulness that it is still possible to find.

I hope you have a blessed week.
