A wild flower and a bee.

This is the flower from some kind of wild leek which is common in the fields of Crete. What is not common and i saw it for first time is the bee I found feasting on it. It was scary and long around 2 inches.
On one flower I counted five of the species. Can anyone please help identify it?

We have a purple flower growing outside that looks a lot like this one, Costas, but I can't imagine it's the same one. I'll try to dig up my picture of ours.

Also... I sent the link to your blog to a close friend of mine who loves cats! She was as pleased as your pictures as I was!

I have no idea as to what kind of bee that is, but two inches sounds big! Fun to see your photos.

What amazing bees. They are even more beautiful when I enlarged the photos - on my monitor they are about 2 inches, which is about full size by your description. Wow - I've never seen bees that big! I'm not good with ID's, and I hope you get the information you seek!
