The ancient theater of Herodes Atticus.

Herod the Atticus (103-179 AD) was an Athenian born in a noble and very rich family. He was a very educated man as he could afford famous teachers of his era, and he became famous as a sophist.
He was a philanthropist and he became sponsor of large and expensive public works.
Perhaps, the most famous of the structures he payed to be built, was the Odeon at the eastern side of the rock of Acropolis in Athens.
The theater is still used today, during the Athens Festival period to host performances of ancient drama, music and dances.
Unfortunately it was not open the time I was passing in front of it, so I could only take a few photographs from the outside.
